Container Leasing A/S was formed in 1994 by Ernst Nielsen and a partner who together had been successfully responsible for the container portfolio belonging to Danish general leasing company which at that time was closing down its business.

The container portfolio was moved away from the other leasing company and put into the management of Container Leasing A/S whereby the lending banks secured their outstanding debt and the costumers secured their rights under the lease agreements.

This created a unique opportunity for the two founders to use their good relationships in the shipping industry and with the banks to build up a strong portfolio in the name of their new company Container Leasing A/S. In the following years the strategy was expanded to include also ship financing.

Container Leasing UK was formed in 1997 as a consequence of bankruptcy of Bell Line. The containers financed by Container Leasing A/S to Bell Line were converted into an operating fleet of containers managed by Container Leasing UK and some of the senior employees of Bell Line; hereunder Bill Harrison today the managing Director of Container Leasing UK, became the management of the new Company. Also this turned out to be very successful.

Today 100 % of the shares in Container Leasing A/S are owned by Ernst Nielsen and 37 % of the shares in Container Leasing UK Limited are owned by Container Leasing A/S. The remaining 63 % of Container Leasing UK Limited is controlled by Bill Harrison.

Container Leasing is now a mature international group providing container and ship financing worldwide as well as engaging in containers and shipping on an operational basis
