Special containers

Not all cargoes will fit, or can be broken down to fit, inside a standard 20 or 40' container. Therefore a wide variety of "special" containers have been developed. Apart from the types shown in more detail on the other pages, there are many variations to the theme of containers. The container without a roof; an Open Top, without sides and roof; a Flat Rack, without roof or sides or ends; a Platform Flat.

Half Height containers have been developed for heavy cargoes.

45' and even 53' containers are used for light cargoes and Ventilated containers and Insulated containers are used for tempereture and moisture sensetive cargoes.
